![]() “I started to take writing more seriously in order to earn a living at it. ![]() "When I found out I was going to be a father, there was a major shift,” he said. He met his future wife while working at the Native American Health Center in Oakland. “There were tons of stories to write through the lens of my own life.” “Initially, I was just experimenting with the craft of writing,” he said. He enrolled at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico and received a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree. Then I got a part-time job at a used bookstore. “I didn’t grow up believing in the power of stories,” Orange said. An aspiring musician, he received a college degree in sound engineering.
